Since the emergence of the historic preservation movement in the mid-nineteenth century, property owners and nonprofit organizations have employed various strategies to protect and share sites, structures, and cultural traditions of national, local, and individual significance. At the forefront of this effort is the National Park Service, which has largely relied on traditional approaches such as rehabilitation, parks, tours, and education. While these methods have successfully preserved cherished locations and practices, a pressing question remains: can preservation traditions adapt to the ever-changing landscape of modern times? As the world changes rapidly and technology advances, conventional preservation methods must evolve to capture the imagination of modern audiences. To address this challenge, Mountain Mama Investigations helps historic sites adopt innovative approaches to combat declining interest, including the integration of paranormal tourism.
Paranormal Investigation
Mountain Mama Investigations provides professional and ethical paranormal investigations, serving both historic sites and individuals seeking to communicate with the unseen. Rooted in methods from pioneers in parapsychology such as Hans Holzer and J.B. Rhine, MMI engages with locations using investigative methods that produce more credible evidence and not ones reliant solely on modern “ghost hunting” equipment. From there, MMI creates a tailored strategic plan for historic sites to pursue or improve their current paranormal tourism in a way that honors both the living and the dead.
Mobile Unit
We come to you. As a mobile paranormal and preservation unit, we bring our services directly to your site and work on location to provide any portion of our investigation process. Our work doesn’t end when the investigation does; we return as often as needed to help you execute new tourism initiatives and business operations. With your permission, we’ll also promote your location through our own social media channels.

Do you assist sites that already have paranormal tourism established?
MMI assists sites that already employ paranormal tourism. Some locations find that they need a refresh or assistance in taking their paranormal tourism in a new direction. We have also assisted sites in adding important policies and regulations that make their sites more peaceful when paranormal tourism is in use. MMI enjoys using “out of the box” thinking for tourism strategy
How much do you charge for your services?
As we are a 501(c)3, any charges that we may have for our services will be significantly lower than those of any other consultant you may find. The reason for this is that we do this with a mindset around our vision and mission, not a money mindset. The cost of services will vary depending on the quantity and extent of services we provide.
How long does a paranormal investigation take?
This depends on how many investigations may be needed for the property. Depending on the size of the location, MMI may need to investigate the location 1-3 times to ensure we cover the entirety of the site. Many investigations can be completed after one night. If you would like an evidence review of the investigation, this typically takes 3-4 weeks to process. During this time, our team will review media recorded from the investigation for audio and visual evidence of paranormal activity. Additionally, we will document any personal experiences we had during the investigation.
Do you offer more than paranormal tourism?
We do! Beyond paranormal tourism, sites may find that they need some unique tourism events to pique the interest of audiences. MMI can aid you in using the history of your location to do this. We have found that some locations can use their history to offer events that create a more immersive experience for the visitor. We are happy to be your think tank in how to offer the best experiences.
